“This new body of work answers the impulse to find resonances and associations where none are meant to be, an impulse broadly defined by the term "pareidolia." When one apprehends the architectural features of this urban landscape, it is rather difficult to ignore the mask-like structures that loom above. A concrete scrollwork becomes a tusk, an ogee a knotted brow. As I set these passing fancies down in ersatz totems of cardboard and glue, I have the feeling that I am doing something that is both fundamentally absurd and fundamentally human, an inescapable dichotomy if there ever was one.”
