Humberto Duque (born 1978) from Mexico is educated at Centro Nacional de las Artes, Mexico City and Staatliche Akademie der Bildende Künste in Karlsruhe, Germany.

”Narrative is number one on my list, mainly because of the power it has to create a unique world. It is here where different situations entwine to become stories. My work is the sum of impossible tales, starring a handful of what I like to call “true heroes of the absurd”: mysterious characters driven to carry out their actions to the bitter end.

The context itself unfolds ditto as key player of these fictions. We find ourselves thus before fragmented landscapes, inspired by diverging elements of fantasy and by other mechanisms that increase the confusion of the atmosphere. All this comes together to create the proper topography where these stories can take place.

The theme of the work is indeed the narrative itself. Even so, it is reinforced by different arguments that will be used as the background to incite all kinds of intrigue. So far as one can see there is a great amount of the absurd, and of humor, without leaving behind moments of a sinister sharpness.” /Humberto Duque
