Juhana Moisander (født 1977 i Finland) har en Master i kunst fra Universitetet
for Kunst og Design i Helsinki.
Moisander arbeider med installasjon hvor
han kombinerer skulpturelle elementer, digitale prints, lyd og video. Han
har deltatt på en rekke utstillinger, senest aktuell med SWAP ved Burrau
Gallery i Salford, England og som deltager ved Biennale for Young Art, Moscow
Museum of Contemporary Art i Moskva, begge i 2008.
Juhana Moisander utgår fra en etnografisk undersøkelse når han i sine installasjoner iscenesetter og komponerer situasjoner inspirert av folklore, historie og overtro. I arbeidene møtes flere virkelighetssfærer og skillet mellom fortid og framtid viskes ut. Arbeidene inviterer dermed betrakteren til å konfronteres med det overnaturlige.
”In my art I create scenes or spaces that attends to create an opening or
a crack to experience something that link us with the natural environment
itself, or to the meaning-structures culture has build from experiences of
the surrounding world and has found worthy of remembering and passing on.
My
methods have been linked to an ethnographical approach. I study old and new
stories and visual representations produced on the subject, by interviewing
people and making research in museum collections and archives. I collect
material from certain issue or an area and combine historical material with
todays phenomenons in order to create a story or a scene.
Major area or interest
for me, have been that certain animals in our tradition have been associated
with evil. The produced images in our mind keep influencing us, even though
we don´t have any physical contact with them.”
